Giving to MksU (alma mater)
Did you love your time spent here at Machakos? We loved having you! Show us how much you loved being a Machakos university graduate by using your alumni super powers to give back.
Ways of Giving Back
Share the bragging rights
An opportunity! People at your alma mater want to know what you’re up to in life, because they want to see how the University influenced who you are. We want to hear all brags, humble or not, so please keep us posted. You make us look good because your success is our success! By sharing news of your promotions, milestones and career ventures, we get to boast that you graduated from our university! If you are taking the world by storm (which we are certain you are!) don’t keep it to yourself! Send the good news here! You might end up in our magazine, in our alumni newsletter.
Lead
Machakos University Alumni wishes to strengthen the Alumni association and always need new members and new ideas to keep them thriving. So exercise your leadership skills by joining a committee in the association. This is a great way to stay connected and give back, while strengthening your unity and networking at the same time. If you can’t take on a leadership role, don’t underestimate the power of participation: Attending regional alumni events or returning to campus for Homecoming is an easy way to show your support and affinity for your college—and it’s a great networking opportunity, too.
Lend a Helping Hand
Mksu University will always need volunteers to work at events, make phone calls, or serve the community with students or other alumni. If you live in the area, call your alumni association and let them know that you’re available to be on an event committee, lead a service project etc. Giving your time can be just as valuable as donating money.
Hire/recommend fellow alumni for Internships or jobs
Mksu is happy when their students and graduates get jobs and internships. Are you in charge of hiring decisions? Why not hire a Machakos University graduate? You already know how great they are! Even if you aren’t a hiring manager, sweet-talk your boss into giving an internship/job to a student/alum, encourage them to recruit from your alma mater! You can also make yourself available for informational interviews to support students trying to break into your industry or company . Even if you’re just a few years out of college, to a current student, your professional insight is more powerful than you know. Get right! Attracting talent to your team reflects well on your own abilities.
Share Your Expertise
You have real-world expertise that our university can make use of. University career centers, faculty members, and student clubs often love to highlight the expertise of their alumni as an inspiration to current and prospective students. When you’re in town, or if you live close by, offer to sit on a panel during Career Week, give a presentation about industry trends to the student business club, or volunteer to speak to a class. No matter where you are in life, there are definitely students who can benefit from your experience and advice.
Refer Prospective Students
Do you know a high school student who is making decisions about joining the university this year? Be an unofficial recruiter for your school by taking time out to talk to her about your University experience. If you live locally, offer to meet with her for coffee or give her a campus tour, and consider introducing her to some faculty and staff. Sharing your insight and answering her questions will help her make an informed choice for her/his future, while simultaneously opening doors for you to serve as a mentor.
Volunteer
Nationally and internationally, our alumni are our best ambassadors. Their success and commitment to the Machakos University community inspires the next generation of Machakos University students to achieve their dreams. As Volunteers you are important throughout the year for alumni activities both on- and out of the University.
If you can give a few hours of your time, here are some ways to reconnect:
1. Volunteer during Alumni activities. eg. Alumni community service, alumni homecoming day, etc.
2. Help with events welcoming guests as a host, or promoting our activities as a social media ambassador. (links)
3. Be a Reunion Ambassador and organize your class reunion.
4. Submit your career profile so students can view examples of career paths.
5. Wherever you are or whatever you do, remember, we need your help! Stop by the University Get involved! Support your alma mater and those who follow your footsteps. Know your Volunteering is a way to lead Machakos University to success.
Give money: Big or small
Machakos University will always be thankful when alumni support the University in monetary ways. Big or small, giving your money can make an impact. It’s a donation at the end of the day. Or, pick one project the university is working on and find out how to directly give to that project.
